At the invitation of the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) and the President of Angola, H.E. João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, Ghana participated in the 17th U.S.-Africa Business Summit, held from 22nd to 25th June 2025 in Luanda, Angola. The Summit brought together twelve Heads of State and Government, numerous African Ministers, senior officials from the U.S. Government, corporate leaders from both the United States and Africa, and over 2,700 delegates.
The three-day Summit aimed to reinforce the strategic collaboration between the United States and Africa and explore opportunities to increase mutually beneficial commercial interactions. Emphasizing a win-win approach, the event set the stage for a new era of U.S.-Africa partnership, highlighting the need for stronger commercial ties, strategic cooperation, and investment-driven growth. Key discussions focused on economic development, public-private partnerships, regional integration, and the investment climate across the continent.
Ghana was represented by a high-level delegation led by the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Hon. Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, MP, who also represented H. E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana. The delegation comprised the Ambassador of Ghana to Angola, H.E. Mavis Kusorgbor; The Deputy Chairperson of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dr. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije; the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Dr. Mary Awusi, as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Trade and Agribusiness, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Parliament, and the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, as well as officials from the Ghana Embassies in Angola and Washington, D.C.
The Ghanaian delegation actively participated in high-level roundtable sessions such as Prescribing Trade Solutions: Unlocking Health Sector Growth under AfCFTA and Paths to Prosperity: A Shared Vision for Trade and Investment. These sessions delved into the policy frameworks needed to facilitate and expand trade and investment between the U.S. and Africa.
The Hon. Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry also held productive bilateral meetings with Angolan Minister for Industry and Commerce, Hon. Rui Miguéns de Oliveira, and South African Deputy Minister for Trade, Industry and Competition, Mr. Zuko Godlimpi. Discussions centered on enhancing trade relations and harmonizing standards to enable smoother private sector transactions between the respective countries.
Additionally, the Hon. Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare met with the Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Africa, Ms. Constance Hamilton, to discuss the future of U.S.-Ghana trade relations within a framework grounded in fairness, inclusivity, and mutual benefit. She also received courtesy visits from the President and Founder of the Mitrelli Group and the CEO of Zipline Africa, both of whom expressed keen interest in expanding their operations in Ghana.
The 2025 U.S.-Africa Business Summit culminated in impactful dialogue, strategic partnerships, and business deals exceeding USD $2.5 billion across sectors including energy, critical minerals, and infrastructure. The Summit concluded with a renewed and collective commitment to unlocking Africa’s economic corridors and building long-term, sustainable partnerships founded on mutual respect and shared prosperity.
